Abstract

The objective of this research paper is to contribute to the study of dramaturgy in Northwestern Argentina through the analysis of an unknown play titled Verditón poeta en el país de Izder, by Roberto Albeza.

The main point of reflection is the constitution of a peculiar linguistic dimension throughout the work, a crucial aspect given its high degree of hermeticism. In principle, Verditón is marked by the constant use of a quasi-lyrical language, reinforced by the insertion of fragments of poems. For this reason, the boundaries between dramatic prose and poetry are not clear; rather, they tend to be blurred as much as possible in order to produce a hybrid text, rich in tangential zones, that reveals an original crossing of genres. This hermeticism is also produced through the inclusion of a strong surrealist vein.

In addition, poetic language reinforces the constitution of a particular semantic universe that determines its own mythology and mechanics. In this sense, around the figure of Verditón, the word acquires an unusual force and gains the capacity to create a world as a quasi-divine instrument. Thus, there is a clear metalinguistic component that makes the play largely self-referential.
