Abstract
Contemporary semiotics would seem not to speak about the same world of objects. One of the reasons for this is the epistemological rupture introduced by so-called linguistic semiotics, represented by Saussure, Hjelmslev, and Greimas, which renounces the external referent in relation to the logical-cognitive and philosophical tradition. However, this linguistic semiotics must confront anti-materialist, cognitivist, and logical prejudices in order to advance as a science of language.
This paper reflects on those prejudices and proposes the need to integrate, through the term “transubstantiation”, the intimate correlation between the material signifying plane of semiotic forms and substances and the plane of content. It also develops a reinsertion of the passional subject as a “paper subject”, one that nevertheless leaves in the text the marks of the “body that enunciates and feels”, in order to move toward a theory of enunciative praxis.
