The Apparition of the Virgin of Barro Negro as a Borderland Cultural Object

Abstract
How should we read the apparition of a Virgin in a small locality of La Mendieta called Rosario de Río Grande, formerly Barro Negro, in Jujuy? How should we read her image inscribed on a river stone, and consequently, how should we read in this stone the traits of a culture?
If we begin the process of semiotic reading by characterizing this object as a sign of culture, we will need to set its dynamic trajectory in motion, starting from its conditions of production, circulation, and reception. This will allow us to infer the internal dialogism and the plurivalence of the languages that interact as transforming mechanisms of culture.
