Abstract

This article presents the results of a research project that studies the convergences between the question of intersubjectivity and that of recognition as developed by phenomenology, and more specifically in Husserl’s posthumously published work entitled Zur Phänomenologie der Intersubjektivität. These convergences make it possible to relocate several topics concerning the question of the Other and of alterity in the philosophies of E. Levinas, M. Merleau-Ponty, and P. Ricoeur.

We seek to deepen a phenomenological-ontological approach to the human and the interhuman, one that helps us to consider more radically some of the assumptions involved in the articulation between intersubjectivity and recognition in contemporary philosophy when it is mediated by the categories of the “other” and the “we”.

Here, in a critical and creative way, we develop Husserl’s original theses and those of his French interpreters, reworking them in order to seek the presuppositions of an intercultural philosophy of alterity, whose reformulations move both beyond and this side of Husserl.

These theoretical aspects of phenomenology seem to us crucial for understanding today the intercultural turn in contemporary philosophy.
