Abstract

The problem of poverty can be approached at different levels of reality—socioeconomic, cultural, educational, among others—and such studies provide information about the scope of the phenomenon, the magnitude of the affected social groups, the family and social fractures it produces, the cultural distances it generates, and other related aspects.

In this paper, we propose to reflect on the meaning that school acquires in the life trajectory of an adolescent girl in a context of urban poverty. The purpose is to make visible certain traits that intersect in the construction of subjectivity.

The study was approached from an ethnographic perspective, and interviews were conducted that made it possible to reconstruct the biographical itinerary of the adolescent’s school trajectory.
