Suicide as a Revealer of Situations That Cause Suffering in a Secondary School

Abstract
This paper is part of the research project entitled “Suffering and Creativity in Secondary-Level Educational Institutions” (SECTER-UNJu / 2012). The general objective of this study was to inquire into the relational, group, and institutional processes that expressed suffering and creativity in secondary-level educational institutions.
This article analyzes some aspects of the group process in the classroom following the suicide of a fourth-year student who attended a public educational institution in the city of San Salvador de Jujuy, Jujuy, Argentina. During 2011, this event disrupted the daily life of the students. It was a moment of crisis for the group, in which latent aspects emerged and generated suffering. The work was approached from the perspective of Social Psychology founded by Enrique Pichon-Rivière.
The research was exploratory and followed a qualitative logic. Participant observations and open interviews with students were carried out. After listening to some members of the class and analyzing the material, we reflected on suicide as a social emergent, in which the subject acts as a spokesperson for what takes place in institutions such as family, education, and religion, within the framework of a social order that determines him or her.
