The Textualization of Camila O’Gorman in Juana M. Gorriti’s Writing

Abstract
The analysis of “Camila O’Gorman”, a text by Juana M. Gorriti included in Panoramas de la vida (1876), as a historical account serves as the basis for an ideological reading of the author’s idea of nation.
Examining the structural fabric of a tragic episode attributable to Rosas’s tyranny reveals the presence of the political debate of the period.
Through the theory of the imaginary, it becomes possible to observe that the narrative strategies characteristic of Gorriti’s writing challenge forms of complicity with the regime.
Gorriti’s writing explicitly legitimizes the prescribed role of women; however, her female characters conform to what the Enlightenment and Liberalism prescribe for the gender.
