Linguistic-Semiotic Criteria for Compiling an Archaeological Dictionary

Abstract
Different kinds of operations, drawn from both semiotics and linguistics, are involved in the making of a dictionary. They also give rise to different products, whose characterization depends on the type of medium used.
Here I present the elements needed to navigate the Diccionario de uso para el análisis lítico, developed from a corpus of Latin American archaeological texts and available at www.winchkler.com.ar. I list the criteria followed in each stage of the work: delimitation of the corpus, segmentation of the texts, organization of the segmented fragments into different definitions, selection of terms, alphabetical lists, construction of networks, and preparation of entries.
I also present the elements resulting from this process: the corpus, the statements, the definitions, the networks, and the entries. Finally, I offer some comments on the most complex aspects of the research.
