EVALUACIÓN DE MARCADORES MÉTRICOS DEL SEXO EN LA COLECCIÓN HISPANOINDÍGENA DE LA FALDA (SJ Til. 43), TILCARA, JUJUY

Presented are here the results of the study of metric expressions of sexual dimorphism in adult individuals from La Falda (SJTil 43) cemetery. La Falda cemetery is characterized by the extraordinary degree of bone integrity in the skeletal assemblages recovered. It is chronologicaly as well as culturaly related to the Early Native-Spanish Contact Period I (Período Hispano-Indígena I). Funerary inclusions found associated with the skeletons are clearly indicative of the sex of the buried individuals. Similar observations were made in previous experiences in which morphological traits were used (i.e. cranium and pelvis). Seventeen adult skeletons out of thrirty one individuals recovered from La Falda cemetery were measured and analyzed using metric variables of long bones: maximum length, as well as diameters of the head of femur and humerus). Results show a clear metric separation between sexes. We conclude that individuals from La Falda belonged to a population with a clear-cut metric dimorphic expression in adulthood.
