Abstract

Casabindo is a village situated in the Cochinoca department in the central sector of a highland plateau: «La Puna de Jujuy». Its name comes from of the prehispanic society that inhabited this zone in the 16th century and belongs to the people of the Late Period or Regional Developments (1000 to 1430/80 AD) and inca times, mentioned in different documents contemporary with the Hispanic invasion of the territory (fi rst half of the 16th century). The rock art found in Casabindo shows the continuity and permanence of certain symbols through colonial times to the present. The religious festivity of the Assumption of the Virgin and its bull games show the conservation of tradition as well as customs kept in the oral memory.
