Abstract

Martin Chambi (1891-1973)
Ghosts of the andes memory
The footprints of the past have remained, printed in the photograph. They are segments of realities written by the light, and shaped by the photographer’s lens.
Instants that tell us about moments, about lives which have existed in the past, but now, turned into ghosts, are reluctant to be forgotten. All of them, are congregated by the photographer, through frames and shots which make him unique in his personal way of viewing and understanding the outside world.
Memory against forgetfulness, a memory we can recall by means of Martin Chambi’s images about the streets and the surroundings of Cuzco. His view describes his own history, and the history of his people, intended to be dignified by his lens.
