CHOROTI BIOANTHROPOLOGY
SINCE ERIC VON ROSEN UNTIL TODAY
Abstract
The present paper makes reference to the studies carried out by Eric von Rosen, as a member of the Swedish Expedition to Chaco-Cordillera, at the Choroti settlement situated near Caiza (Bolivia). The importance of that contribution to anthropologic knowledge of von Rosen an almost unknown group at the time is mighlighted. Subsequent papers are mentioned, mainly the current somathologic ones. The most recent investigations on genetic characters analysis for the interpretation of the distribution of traits frequencies in relation to other native South American populations are olso cited.
The main Choroti bioanthropologic characteristics, both from somathology and serology are summarized. The slight intrapopulation variability showed by autosomic micro-satellites and X chromosome is attributed to genetic drift mechanisms occurred in the past since nowadays the population is balanced.
