THE CULTURAL HISTORY OF THE SOUTH AMERICAN INDIANS
Abstract
This review mentions the most relevant topics of the book The Cultural History of the South American Indians, written by Erland Nordenskiöld and edited (including an introduction) by Christer Lindberg. In the book, Nordenskiöld strengthens his hypothesis in which he maintains that the cultural changes are the result of innovations, dispersion (migrations - cultural contacts), and adaptation.
The review includes two cases of introduction of cultural elements (of European origin) in South America: iron fish hooks and poultry (chickens and cocks). An essential book for scholars on the subject.
