Abstract

Recently, postmodern critiques of traditional sociological theories have discussed whether events have structural value in destructured societies and whether events constitute a path of change in societies that live in permanent change.

Within organizational studies, these critiques have not been ignored. Numerous researchers have attempted to define, interpret, and characterize the occurrence of events within organizations. Others have addressed the importance of studying chains of events constructed by action networks.

This approach seeks to address the peculiarity, simultaneity, and multiplicity of events present in the act of organizing, which are joined and linked by actors in the construction of stories within organizations.

This paper proposes a literature review aimed at determining differences and points of convergence in the relationship among Event Theory, Action Networks, Sensemaking, and Meaning, in order to reflect on the importance of these concepts for the construction of meaning among the members of an organization.
