Abstract

We have selected two authors from northern Argentina, Héctor Tizón and David Slodky, whose discourses arise from proposals that differ both from hegemonic metropolitan conceptions and from mere costumbrista regional claims. Our interest is not to develop these kinds of approaches or oppositions, but rather to focus on the way in which both authors construct discourses in search of identity. Beyond their individual complexities, these discourses make it possible to read tightly woven plots of cultural rupture from different aesthetic perspectives, while also drawing on the strategies of the genre to appeal to a language that leaves aside traditional utopias and conceptions.

Although both authors have worked with other genres, this study will focus on two volumes of short stories: El gallo blanco by Héctor Tizón and Las fronteras by David Slodky, both published in the 1990s. The aim is to analyze aspects of this problem from different enunciative spaces: that of the man settled for generations in the culture of the North, and that of the more recent immigrant.
