The Construction and Legitimation of a New Political Order: Ideology and Rituals, Jujuy (1810–1813)
Main Article Content
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explain the application of ideologies and rituals in the construction and legitimation of the new situation initiated by the Revolution of 1810.
In the small community of Jujuy, events took place that reveal the combination of old and new conceptions of “nation” and “sovereignty” during the period in which the men of the Río de la Plata sought to replace Spanish authority.
The attempts to construct a new political order were legitimized through rituals and symbols that served to justify the new government. These were necessary in distant and small cities which, like Jujuy, became a frontier of the former Spanish possession.
