BOMAN AND HIS VISION OF THE “OTHER” AMERICAN
Abstract
Boman, untiring traveler, registered with eyes of admiration on his visit to our Puna what he encountering in his itinerary and documented the meticulous of the landscape, towns, their inhabitants, their occupations, beliefs and traditions, in a personal narration in wich he refers his experiences and, inevitably, his perception of the Indian seen as the “other”.
We intent in this work to study through the discursive forms used by Boman, the different degrees the concept of “alterity” is molding, starting from the different or bizarre, passing through the mystic, by the acceptance or denial of the “other” and it keeps forming a significative system that when it is narrated, it shows some contradictory facets on the appreciation of the Indian whom he cannot identificate himself with, and to whom he tries to “signify” by using known discursive patterns.
