BETWEEN ´THE NOTABLES´ ´THE INTELLECTUALS´ VIRTUALITIES OF FIELD WORK MODEL TO ANALYZE A SOCIETY IN TRANSFORMATION (SANTIAGO DEL ESTERO 1920-1930

Abstract

The modernizing processes that were impelled in Argentina since 1880 and forward and the impact of the progressive settling down of immigrant masses, took place unequally and at the wrong time at different places in this country (Argentina) In dealing with the analysis of intellectual groups that acted in this country around the twenties, if we want to do it, regarding ´field´, we are forced - to know what we are talking about- to go back to composition study of society elites dealt with, and above all its transformation dynamics. It is here where the model gets complex and at the same time unfolds its virtualities in the social sciences, as always, it does not mean one has ´to apply´ an explicate model, but to set oneself to work a concept, taking advantage of its ´availabilities´ according to the case aspect and material that is available.

Between 1920 and 1930, on the other hand, not only the composition of the governmental groups has diversifies but it does not coincide in a direct way with economic power groups or social power groups.

In the analysis through time of the composition of women´s associations such as Welfare associations, other institutions linked to the church, such as Saint Vincent de Paul´s Society, and the ones starting at the beginning of the 20th century, the women´s society: Patricians of the feminine Branch of the Patriotic League confirms the same intuition Everything happens as if it there had not been in these years a dissociation among economic capital, political capital and social capital: If in the 19th century were the same families the ones that accumulated all kinds of capital precisely for indifferentation of symbolic capital since 1920 we find evidence of a progressive differentiation.

As well as see, the efforts of construction of a specific space of intellectuals with their own voices will be marked with a voluntary bias, and for a stronger presence of ´the notables´, and for debates linked to the twenties, that in Buenos Aires were then the expression of struggles of a field relatively autonomous in which different vanguard groups opposed specifically to the way to make literature of a previous generation of intellectuals.
