Abstract

Within the framework of the research project “Transversality as a Space for the Construction of Interculturality” (Secter, UNJu; 1999–2001), we have investigated the development of problems linked to different aspects of this subject. In this paper, we propose to reflect on what we consider to be some significant antecedents in the treatment of the problem of interculturality within the History of Argentine and Latin American Ideas. We seek to analyze a series of axes shared by the selected thinkers, who turned them into the object of systematic and common reflection. These themes, as developed by the thinkers studied here, also refer us to current reflections in the Philosophy of Interculturality, thus constituting unavoidable contributions to it.

The urgent need to think of Latin America as the creator of its own identity, through the search for the principles that sustain our identity, is a concern that runs through their works. In the four thinkers analyzed, this concern is related to the exploration of the meanings of everyday life as lived by popular sectors. From this perspective, a link appears with contingency as the basis for the recognition of subjects.

This paper, therefore, addresses what we consider to be some significant antecedents in the treatment of interculturality within the History of Latin American Ideas, in order to analyze certain axes that appear as a common concern among the selected thinkers and that contribute to the construction of a Philosophy of Interculturality.
