The Motif of Weaving in the Oral Tales of Jujuy: An Identity Marker of Andean Culture

Abstract

The hypotheses put forward in this paper are based, first of all, on the consideration of oral tales as verbal acts of communication that convey a message identifying the cultural specificity of the community that produces them.

In the selected corpus, these tales are studied as discursive practices in which constitutive elements of the cosmology of Andean people are at stake. Thus, the analysis allows us to affirm that these tales express the crisis in the relationship between Andean people and the new social structure imposed by the conquest.

The social practice that generates meaning in these tales is related to the regulation of work. The tale reveals the attitude of Andean people, who value ways of life of ancestral origin.
