Late Epilepsy: Cysticercosis
Main Article Content
Abstract
Under the title “Late Epilepsy: Cysticercosis”, this study seeks to determine the seroprevalence of cysticercosis in patients with seizures who consulted at the two main hospitals in the province of Jujuy. It also aims to identify the areas of origin of these patients and to indicate the concomitance with other pathologies, such as alcoholism, intellectual disability, and others.
This is a descriptive study. The samples were occasional and were obtained on Wednesdays at the neurology outpatient clinic during the period 1994–1996. The results correspond to 75% of the evaluated population, 215 patients, of whom 91, or 42.32%, had positive serology.
The places of origin of this population were identified, showing internal migration for work-related reasons. The admission diagnoses were varied, and measures to be taken in the area are suggested. The bibliographic search was carried out mainly using Latin American and international authors.
