Rationality and Methodology in Bacon's Novum Organum
Main Article Content
Abstract
In his Novum Organum Francis Bacon tried to build a method of discovery, a logic «to create and increase knowledge». However, the inductive strategies developed there seem to be strategies of evaluation rather than of discovery, to the point that some contemporary critics consider him a forerunner of Popper. In this paper we aim to evaluate the usefulness of the Baconian induction for the New Philosophy of Science, which is interested in the process of scientific discovery.
