At the End of a Century... Education and National Identity in Argentina

Abstract
Education and the “formation of national identity”, approached from a normative perspective, were one and the same thing in the Argentine public school system configured at the end of the nineteenth century. One century later, this paper seeks to analyze the treatment of this issue in the Basic Common Contents established for the country by the Educational Transformation Program.
To this end, the paper traces the development of identity theory in anthropology and considers nationality, within this context, as a particular form of identity. In this way, it obtains the keys for examining the current political-educational proposal.
